The Haircut
Published: 02 Jan 2022I woke with my head slightly chilly. I’d forgotten that, yesterday, instead of walking by the bathroom, I dipped in and left my hair behind.
It’s no big deal, really. I do it maybe three or four times a year. My hair moves between something of a Santa Claus crossed with Einstein back to my old Army Basic Training styling. Before my Army days, back in the mid-80’s, I might have gladly paid $20+ to have some young (i.e., around my age), big-haired girl’s tits hanging over me while she trimmed my bangs, convincing myself I was more stylish on the other end. After the Army? I’m on my second pair of clippers. The first pair still works; I just couldn’t find a new set of cutting guides that snap over them to set the length. Over the years, I’d occasionally return to the hair cutting shops, but for that same $20+ I’d walk out disappointed and, more often than not, shave the aggravation away within a day or two afterward.
Similar for beards and razors, if you’re wondering.
Anyway, the temperature’s expected to hit 60F today – fresh air on the scalp! Overnight? A winter storm warning: 3-6 inches of snow. The hat collection is ready.
And so it goes… Still a surprise to see that strange face in the mirror. A good start for the New Year.
